We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Sewing Machinist to join our Production department at Skyline Whitespace, specialising in creating high-quality fabric components for exhibition stands and live events.

Job Summary
As a Sewing Machinist at Skyline Whitespace, you will play a vital role in creating high-quality fabric components for our clients' exhibition stands. Your primary responsibility will be to measure, cut, sew, and finish fabric materials, ensuring that all textile elements meet our exacting quality standards and client specifications. Working closely with the Production, Graphics, and Design teams, you will help bring visually striking fabric displays to life, contributing to the overall aesthetic and functionality of our clients' exhibition spaces.
Key Responsibilities:
- Measure, cut, and sew fabric components for exhibition stands according to design specifications and project requirements.
- Operate industrial sewing machines and other equipment to ensure precise and high-quality stitching and finishing.
- Collaborate with the Graphics and Design teams to incorporate printed fabrics and ensure seamless integration into the overall display.
- Inspect materials for defects and inconsistencies before and after production to maintain quality control.
- Apply finishing techniques such as hemming, edging, and reinforcing seams for added durability and visual appeal.
- Work with various fabric types, while understanding their specific handling and sewing techniques.
- Maintain equipment in optimal working condition, performing regular maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
- Meet tight project deadlines while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
- Assist with fabric setup and installation on-site as needed, ensuring displays are properly fitted and tensioned.
- Keep accurate records of materials used and tasks completed, reporting any issues or delays to the production team.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with production team to review fabric requirements and timelines for each exhibition build.
- Create patterns or templates for custom fabric pieces to ensure accurate and repeatable results.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organised work environment.
- Assist in the sourcing and selection of fabrics, ensuring the right material is used for each project’s needs.
- Perform minor fabric repairs or alterations on-site during exhibition installations or dismantling.
- Ensure all fabric components are neatly packed and labelled for transportation to exhibition sites.
- Communicate with vendors or suppliers regarding fabric orders and delivery schedules.
- Stay updated on new sewing techniques, tools, and trends in the exhibition and display industry to continuously improve craftsmanship.
As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and amended in consultation with the Seamstress.
The Seamstress will carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the Line manager or Head of Department.
The Seamstress will actively follow our company’s policies including Equal Opportunities policies

Qualifications:
Experience:
- Significant experience in graphic sewing or textile finishing, ideally within a production environment.
Skills:
- Strong ability to operate industrial sewing machines and other relevant equipment.
- Meticulous in measuring, cutting, and sewing fabrics to ensure precision and consistency.
- Understanding different textile types, their properties, and the appropriate handling and sewing methods.
- Ability to create and work from fabric patterns or templates.
- Capable of managing multiple projects under tight deadlines while maintaining quality standards.
- Strong interpersonal skills for working closely with design, production, and project management teams.
- Able to troubleshoot issues with fabric, machinery, or installations and quickly implement solutions.

- On-site installation success – Number of installations completed without fabric issues or the need for adjustments.
- Production efficiency – Time taken to complete fabric-related tasks compared to estimated timelines.

Working Conditions:
- The role is typically based in a production or workshop environment with large format printing machines and other equipment like sewing machine
- Flexibility: During busy periods, evening and weekend work will be necessary to accommodate event schedules and client needs.
- Pace: Fast-paced, dynamic environment requiring flexibility and the ability to adapt quickly.
- Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure smooth project execution.
